THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
Palm Sunday - April 9th 2017
My God, why have you forsaken me?
Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. Do you believe this?” The central reality of our faith as Christians is that Christ has risen from the dead and that he lives among us. Holy Week is the celebration of Christ’s journey into this new life; a journey that we are also invited to travel, knowing that he has gone before us, and that he travels with us. It is important to make this week a special time of prayer and reflection. This is done in the frequent gatherings in Church. But we need to take time at a family level and also at a personal level to get in touch with the most inspiring and life-giving love story ever told. Talk to each other this week about all the good things the Lord has done for you. If you are a parent, let each of your family know what s/he means to you. And take a full part in the Liturgy.
Morning Prayer, when together
Almighty, ever-living God,
you have given the human race Jesus Christ our Saviour
as a model of humility.
He fulfilled your will by becoming flesh and giving his life on the cross.
Help us to bear witness to you by following his example
and make us worthy to share in his resurrection..
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, may the suffering and death of Jesus, your only Son
make our love for each other pleasing to you.
Alone we can do nothing; with him we can do all things.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Lord, the death of your Son gives us hope
and strengthens our faith.
May his resurrection give us perseverance in our love,
and lead us, and all those we love, to salvation.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: What plans can you make to spend special time with your wife/husband this week?
For others: Think about and pray for those around the world who today are being persecuted for their faith.
