THE COUPLE THAT PRAYS TOGETHER STAYS TOGETHER.
Fr. Johnny Doherty, C.Ss.R.
June 5th – 11th 2022
Pentecost
Jesus said to his disciples: “I shall ask the Father and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever.” As we celebrate the coming of the Holy Spirit on the Church it is good to ask the questions: How do we let the Spirit be actively present? and How do we exclude the Spirit? And we should ask these in the two contexts of our homes and our parish community. The Spirit is present when we are at peace with one another; the Spirit is absent when we are divided. The Spirit is present when we are living in joy; the Spirit is absent when we are settling for dullness. The Spirit is present when we are being creative and changing; the Spirit is absent when we are trying to keep things the way they always were. The Spirit is present especially when we are building relationships of love in our homes and parish.
Morning Prayer, when together
God our Father
let the Spirit you sent on your Church
to begin the teaching of the gospel
continue to work in our love for one another
and in the hearts of all who believe.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
During the day, when apart
Lord, may the Spirit you promised
lead us into all truth and reveal to us
the full meaning of our sacrament of marriage.
We ask this through Christ Our Lord.
Evening/Night Prayer together
Father, may our love for one another
help our eternal redemption.
Keep within us the vigour of your Spirit
and protect the gifts you have given to your Church.
We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen.
Questions for Action for the week
For your marriage: What are three of the best gifts your wife/husband has right now? How will you communicate that this week?
For others: Choose two or three people in your life. What are three of the best gifts each of them has? How will you tell them this week?
